Hezbollah says it will force government to backtrack on ban of its activities, promises “surprises” with suicide drones, affirms readiness for long war

Hezbollah’s political council member Wafiq Safa said the party will force the Lebanese government to backtrack on its decision to ban the group’s military activities after the war, adding: “regardless of the method.”

In a press interview, Safa added that “President Aoun’s rhetoric differs from the prime minister’s,” noting that communication continues with the president. He threatened “surprises, especially with suicide drones,” affirming that the group has prepared for a long war.

He stressed that the immediate priority is to end the war, implement the agreement, and secure the return of prisoners, before returning to “the mechanism” later. He said the party will not topple the government through street protests for now, but may resort to the street after the war under a different agenda with the government.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam had earlier affirmed he does not accept “submitting to the party’s blackmail,” stressing that the implementation of the decision to expel the Revolutionary Guard from Lebanon is underway, and that his government has abolished the concept of a ban on negotiations with Israel, adding: “It is not the duty of the Lebanese to avenge Khamenei.”
