Syria: “Connecting Continents” Project to Enhance Digital Infrastructure

Syria launched the first international submarine cable project under the title “Connecting Continents,” aiming to improve internet speeds, strengthen digital infrastructure for both public and private sectors, and open new economic opportunities.

The Syrian Ministry of Communications and Technology signed the project agreement with the Spanish company “Medusa” at the Tartous station, in the presence of Minister of Communications Abdul Salam Heikal and company representative Norman Albi.

The ministry emphasized that the project is part of a new phase to rebuild Syria’s digital infrastructure. It will reconnect international networks through submarine cables and facilitate faster, more efficient data exchange. The project also represents a cornerstone in Syria’s strategy to establish its position as a regional and international hub for internet and communications transit between Asia and Europe.

The project is expected to contribute to higher internet speeds, reduced latency, stronger digital infrastructure, enhanced digital services, and attracting investments in the telecommunications and e-commerce sectors.
