Damascus announces its acceptance of Lebanon’s request

The Secretary-General of the Lebanese-Syrian Supreme Council, Nasri Khoury, revealed that Damascus agreed to the request of the Lebanese side to allow the passage of Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity through Syrian territory to Lebanon.
Nasri Khoury said after the Syrian-Lebanese talks session at the Syrian Foreign Ministry building: “The Lebanese side requested the possibility of Syria’s assistance to Lebanon in passing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity through Syrian territory. The Syrian side welcomed the request and confirmed Syria’s readiness to meet that.”
Khoury added, “The two sides agreed to follow up on the detailed technical aspects through a joint technical team to discuss issues related to technical matters in both countries.”
Today, Saturday, a Lebanese ministerial delegation arrived at the Jdeidet Yabous crossing on the Syrian border, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Acting Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government, Zina Aker.
After arriving in Damascus, the Lebanese delegation discussed with Syrian officials issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including the “plan to extract energy and gas from Egypt and Jordan through Syrian territory.” The delegation met with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Miqdad, and a number of Syrian officials.
