Evacuations and Road Closures Amid Difficulty Containing Wildfires Between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem

Israeli authorities evacuated residents from two towns located between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Wednesday and closed several roads due to large-scale wildfires fueled by high temperatures and strong winds.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Authority, firefighting teams are making intensive efforts to extinguish the flames that broke out in forested areas, deploying two airplanes and a helicopter. The statement noted the extreme difficulty in containing the fire due to active winds.

Firefighting teams have been deployed across three main sectors in an attempt to contain the fires and protect lives and property.

The spread of the flames led to the closure of part of Highway 6 southbound and the temporary suspension of train services to Beit Shemesh as a precautionary measure.

Emergency teams continue to assess the situation, issue updates, and warn against lighting fires in open areas during periods of high wind activity.
