Former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim described what is happening in the Gulf region as “a war in every sense of the word,” warning that the scene has become more complicated with the Houthis entering the line of events.
In a post on his official account on platform X, Bin Jassim said: “If we do not see a solution in the next few days, the situation may head toward a longer escalation than expected,” adding that Israel wants the war to continue because its ports on the Mediterranean and the Red Sea “remain open no matter the circumstances.”
He warned of serious economic repercussions if the “stranglehold siege on the Strait of Hormuz” continues, noting that this could affect the global economy and not just the region’s countries. He asked: “Who benefits from this collapse?” affirming that the coming days may reveal whether the decision lies with Washington or Tel Aviv.
He stressed the need for urgent action, saying there are serious efforts including those by Qatar, but achieving results requires a more decisive U.S. role in “controlling the decision-making path” instead of leaving it to Israel. He added that he had previously warned of the risk of sliding into a long war of attrition, “and today that scenario seems closer to reality.”
Bin Jassim had earlier called for forming a strong Gulf military and security alliance similar to NATO, following recent Iranian attacks on regional countries.
