Iran National Team Officially Qualifies for the 2026 World Cup… Will Trump Prevent Them from Participating?
The Iran national football team has qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, raising questions about whether they will actually be allowed to compete in the tournament.
The British newspaper The Sun published a report on the possibility of Iran being banned from participating in the tournament, which will take place next year in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
The report indicated that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a list of 41 countries whose citizens are banned from entering the United States, with Iran at the top of that list. The newspaper explained that this means citizens of these countries will face difficulties entering the U.S., which could prevent the Iranian team from participating in the World Cup if they are not allowed to enter the country.
The report also pointed out that other countries on the U.S. entry ban list could face the same issue if they qualify for the World Cup, including Cameroon, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Venezuela.
It is worth noting that Iran officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup after drawing 2-2 with Uzbekistan on Tuesday, becoming the second team from Asia to secure a spot in the tournament. This marks Iran’s fourth consecutive World Cup qualification and seventh overall.
