Japan’s Nara District Court has handed down an Abe assassin life sentence, convicting Tetsuya Yamagami, 45, for the 2022 killing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a campaign speech in Nara.
According to reports by Reuters and Associated Press, Yamagami admitted to shooting Abe with a homemade firearm while the former leader was addressing supporters in July 2022. The assassination shocked Japan, a country known for its strict gun control laws.
