Iran conditions participation in Islamabad talks on halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanon

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said that his country’s delegation would travel to negotiations with the United States in Islamabad, but would only engage in talks if Israel halts all its attacks on Lebanon. He added that any peace in the region must include Lebanon, describing the coming hours as “very critical.”
Baghaei explained that Iran was on the verge of responding to a ceasefire violation last night, but refrained after Pakistan intervened to allow room for additional diplomacy. He stressed to the United States the need to halt Israeli attacks on Lebanon in line with the truce.
Russia’s Novosti news agency, citing a source in Pakistani security services, reported that U.S.-Iran talks are still on track, and that delegations will arrive in Islamabad according to schedule. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt had earlier announced that the U.S. negotiating team would travel to the Pakistani capital for talks starting Saturday, April 11.
U.S. President Donald Trump had announced on the night of April 8 that a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran had been reached, followed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s announcement of the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global oil and gas supplies pass.
A Novosti correspondent reported that Islamabad’s government area, known as the “Red Zone,” has been cordoned off by police in preparation for the talks, with main roads leading to the administrative complex closed amid security concerns for the participating delegations.
