Manchester United Knocked Out of Carabao Cup After Shocking Penalty Defeat to Fourth-Tier Grimsby

In a stunning upset, Manchester United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round after losing on penalties (12-11) to Grimsby Town, a team from the fourth tier of English football. The match, held on Wednesday, ended 2-2 in regular time.

Grimsby shocked the Red Devils early with two quick goals by Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren within the first 15 minutes. United fought back in the second half, with Cameroonian signing Bryan Mbuemo scoring in the 75th minute, followed by a late equalizer from Harry Maguire in the 89th.

The game went to penalties, where Mbuemo missed a decisive kick, sealing United’s early elimination and adding pressure on manager Rúben Amorim, who has yet to secure a win in the Premier League this season.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Everton, Fulham, and Brighton all progressed with convincing wins over lower-division opponents.
