Monkeypox knocks on Europe’s door… and these individuals spread the infection..

The French Ministry of Health has announced the first case of a new strain of monkeypox, type 1B, in the country.

The ministry said in a statement: “The French Ministry of Labour and Health has received information about the first human case of the 1B strain of monkeypox in the country, in Brittany.”

The ministry also indicated that the infected individual had been in contact with two people who had returned from Africa, where different strains of the virus are active. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection and identify all close contacts.

Earlier, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Belgium also reported confirmed cases of the new monkeypox strain.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the monkeypox outbreak in Africa is a global concern and constitutes a public health emergency.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that lasts between 14 and 21 days. It is more dangerous for individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, followed by a rash that starts as spots, turns into blisters, and leaves scars after healing.
