The Internal Security Directorate in Damascus has launched an investigation following the theft of several Roman statues and rare artifacts from the National Museum of Damascus.

The Head of Internal Security in the governorate, Brigadier General Osama Mohammed Khair Atkeh, confirmed that the competent authorities are currently conducting precise tracking operations to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen items. He noted that the investigation includes museum guards and relevant personnel to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Officials from the Syrian Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums reported that the thieves stole ancient statues dating back to the Roman era from the museum, according to the Associated Press. Authorities continue efforts to recover the stolen items and apprehend those responsible.
