Saudi Arabia Condemns Airport War and Attacks on Civilian Facilities in Sudan
Saudi Arabia has condemned the drone strikes that targeted Sudanese airports using suicide drones.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of vital facilities and infrastructure in Port Sudan and Kassala, emphasizing that such actions pose a threat to regional stability and Arab and African national security.
In a post on its official account on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Ministry called for an immediate end to the war in Sudan and urged sparing the country and its people further suffering and destruction. It affirmed that the optimal solution to this crisis should be a Sudanese-Sudanese political one that respects the country’s sovereignty and unity and supports state institutions.
The Kingdom also reiterated its rejection of such violations, stressing the importance of protecting civilians and implementing the commitments made in the Jeddah Declaration (on the commitment to protect civilians in Sudan), signed on May 11, 2023.
Sudanese media reported that Sudanese army defense units had repelled an attack by drones launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), targeting Kassala Airport for the second time in a row. This came just hours after the RSF attacked Port Sudan Airport.
According to Sudanese media, the RSF launched strikes for the first time earlier today on Port Sudan Airport, where the army-aligned government is based.
The army spokesperson stated that RSF forces launched a morning attack on the Osman Digna airbase, as well as a cargo depot and some civilian facilities in Port Sudan, using suicide drones, though no casualties were reported.
