Shanghai Organization: Russia Proposes Two Initiatives to Strengthen Sustainable Cooperation

Russian Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, announced via a recorded speech at the Shanghai  Organization (SCO) forum on sustainable development two initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation among member states. The initiatives include establishing a “Sustainable Development Council” and developing a unified financial framework to coordinate environmental projects.

The minister also highlighted Russia’s achievements in sustainable development, including reductions in unemployment and poverty, growth in the agricultural sector, and progress in green financing. He noted that more than half of Russia’s major companies currently report their emissions, alongside the development of a national system for monitoring climate-impacting substances.

It is noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in 2001 and includes Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and other Central Asian countries. The organization focuses on enhancing security, economic, and cultural cooperation among its members.
