Strait of Hormuz: First US ships crossing since Feb 28.. Trump announces minesweeping

Axios reported, citing a US official, that several US Navy ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday from east to west toward the Gulf and then returned east through the strait to the Arabian Sea, in the first such crossing since the military operation against Iran began on February 28.

The official added that the step was not coordinated with Iran, stressing that it was an operation focused on freedom of navigation through international waters.

US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform the start of minesweeping operations in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a service to countries including China, Japan, South Korea, France and Germany.

Trump criticized media outlets he described as “fake” that promote “imaginary victories for Iran while it is losing badly.”

Talks between the United States and Iran are being held today in Islamabad, following the approval of a two-week truce on April 8. The Iranian Foreign Ministry had handed over Tehran’s ten demands to officials in Pakistan to convey to the US side.
