Syria Hezbollah cell: Interior foils rabbi target plot in Damascus

A Syrian security source revealed that the religious figure targeted in Damascus by individuals funded by Lebanese Hezbollah was Rabbi Michael Hori.

The Syrian Interior Ministry said in a statement that its specialized units spotted a woman within a cell attempting to plant an explosive device outside the home of a religious figure near the Mariamite Church in the Bab Touma area of the capital.

The ministry added that preliminary investigations revealed the cell’s connection to Lebanese Hezbollah, and that its members received specialized military training abroad, including skills in planting explosive devices. The Interior Ministry published photos of the cell members after their arrest, as well as images of the explosive device, which was connected to a communication device for remote detonation.
