Syria: Al-Sharaa meets U.S. officials… Talks on national unity with new approaches and a possible timeline to end Caesar sanctions

U.S. envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack affirmed after his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in Damascus that the representation of all components is an essential condition for Syria’s unity and stability.

In a statement on Platform “X,” Barrack noted that overcoming divisions cannot be achieved through violence but rather through dialogue and consensus. He emphasized that the current stage requires new approaches beyond strict centralization, adding that the goal is not to establish a full federal system but a more flexible formula that preserves the identity, culture, and language of all components.

In this context, U.S. Senator Joe Wilson called for the repeal of the “Caesar Act” sanctions, stating that the time has come for their complete removal, describing it as a priority for the administration of President Donald Trump. Wilson stressed that a unified and stable country requires inclusive participation, highlighting that this vision enjoys bipartisan support in the United States.

Al-Sharaa earlier received two official U.S. delegations in Damascus, where discussions addressed the latest developments in the country and the region, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

The talks also touched on steps related to lifting U.S. sanctions, including efforts within Congress to end the “Caesar Act” by the end of this year. Al-Sharaa expressed appreciation for these efforts, affirming that they represent a practical path serving the interests of the Syrian people and enhancing security and stability in the region.
