Syrian security source tells Kan News: Preparations for intervention against Hezbollah despite Damascus denial

Syrian intervention in Lebanon: Syrian security source confirms “gap” between public statements and covert moves, says top orders are to “thwart any Hezbollah presence on the ground”

Israeli public broadcaster Kan News reported on Tuesday, citing a Syrian security source close to the authorities, that Syria’s security establishment is preparing for possible intervention against Hezbollah in Lebanon, with plans being made behind the scenes to be implemented when needed, and confirming that “there is a gap between what is said publicly and what is happening behind the scenes,” despite Damascus’s public denials.

The Syrian security source confirmed that instructions to senior levels of Syria’s security establishment are to act against any Hezbollah presence on the ground and thwart it.

These developments came after repeated statements by US President Donald Trump, who most recently claimed during his reception of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House that his Syrian counterpart Ahmad al-Sharaa “wants to intervene against Hezbollah,” considering that such a step could be “effective.”

Trump also said days earlier, after meeting with President al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, that al-Sharaa had made commitments regarding intervention in the file of disarming Hezbollah, without revealing additional details on the matter.

In contrast, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa denied any intention of military intervention in Lebanon, stressing that the priority is rebuilding Syria, and that his country is looking for “economic channels between Lebanon and Syria, not military ones.” He described reports of possible Syrian military intervention as “completely untrue.”
