Iran threatens to target US interests if Washington strikes its nuclear sites
US-Iran escalation: Trump says US would ‘absolutely attack’ any new nuclear site in Tehran, referring to underground site at Mount Pickaxe
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters warned that any US attack on the country’s nuclear and sensitive facilities would make all US interests and its allies targets for a strong Iranian strike, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that his country would “absolutely attack” any new nuclear site in Iran, referring to an underground site at Mount Pickaxe.
Iran warns of war expansion
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters said in a statement that the United States had threatened to launch an attack on Iran’s nuclear and sensitive facilities, considering that any US attack on these centers would be an “expansion of the war in the region,” and threatened that “all US interests and its allies” would be targets for a strong strike by Iranian armed forces.
Trump’s remarks, in which he announced that his country would “absolutely attack” any new nuclear site in Iran, came during his reception of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House on Tuesday. Trump added that Iran was trying to rebuild another site, vowing: “We will strike that site too,” referring to an underground site at Mount Pickaxe, following Western reports that Iran had transferred thousands of centrifuges to it.
These mutual threats come at a time of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, amid reciprocal warnings of an expanding conflict in the region and continued indirect negotiations between the two sides.
