Trump Declares “Liberation Day” in America

U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “It’s Liberation Day in America.”

Trump is celebrating April 2nd, the expected date for the implementation of unprecedented new tariffs imposed by the U.S. He previously stated that these tariffs would “liberate America” from foreign goods, usher in what he called a golden age for the United States, and renew its independence.

The tariffs, which took effect today at varying rates, apply to the European Union, South Korea, Brazil, India, China, Japan, Canada, and Mexico.
