Trump Hints at Possible Timeline for Resolving Gaza Conflict
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about potential progress in resolving the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, indicating that a breakthrough could occur within the next month. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during his return from the United Arab Emirates to the United States, Trump emphasized the importance of assisting Palestinians suffering from food shortages, while stressing the need to consider the interests of both sides.
Trump underlined the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages, noting that most have already been freed under his leadership. However, he affirmed his determination to continue pursuing this goal. His remarks came shortly after Hamas released Idan Alexander on May 12, after 584 days in captivity, as part of a prisoner exchange brokered through U.S.-led mediation efforts spearheaded by Trump.
In this context, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Israeli authorities were not directly informed of the negotiations between the United States and Hamas that led to Alexander’s release. Meanwhile, Trump reiterated his commitment to facilitating the delivery of food and humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Washington has announced the imminent activation of a U.S.-backed mechanism to support the transfer of such aid to the Strip.
