Turkey in Syria | Fidan: “The Past 15 Years Were One of Turkey’s Toughest Tests, Politically and Economically”
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that “Turkey’s work in Syria has just begun and is still in its early stages,” emphasizing that Syria is “stable, free from external interventions, and will be a significant addition to the region.” His remarks came during the opening of the 16th edition of the Global Turkish Ambassadors Conference in Ankara, held under the slogan “Foreign Policy That Achieves Peace, Stability, and Prosperity.”
Fidan explained that Turkey will continue to stand by the Syrian people “with full determination and resolve” at this stage, noting that the past fifteen years represented “one of the toughest tests in Turkey’s history,” and that Ankara paid a political and economic price, without compromising humanitarian principles.
Fidan pointed out that the history of interventions in Syria shows that Turkish diplomacy “stood on the right side of history and emerged with its head held high,” adding that December 8, 2024, represents “a milestone and opens a new page of hope for the Syrian people,” referring to recent developments in the Syrian context.
