Grossi: United Nations Absent from Conflict Zones, Failing to Fulfill Its Role

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that the United Nations has lost its effectiveness in preventing armed conflicts, emphasizing its continuous absence from conflict zones worldwide.

In an interview with the newspaper “BICE,” Grossi pointed out that conflict areas such as Sudan, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thailand, Cambodia, the Sahel region, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the Gaza Strip share a common feature: the absence of the United Nations. He noted that this reflects the organization’s shortcomings in fulfilling its core mandate of preventing wars and maintaining peace.

Grossi emphasized that the organization could play an effective role if it activates its diplomatic mechanisms and acts as a neutral mediator, stressing that the UN’s success depends on the readiness of its leadership and member states to engage in active diplomacy and seek solutions through dialogue with all parties involved in conflicts.
