U.S. Department of State on Rubio’s Meeting with the Syrian Delegation
U.S. Department of State Emphasizes the Importance of Implementing the Ceasefire Agreement in Northeast Syria
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that the United States supports the establishment of a stable Syria that enjoys peace with neighboring countries and protects the rights of all its citizens. This came during a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Al-Shaibani and the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Tommy Beigout conveyed in a statement Rubio’s emphasis on Washington’s commitment to supporting Syria’s stability and safeguarding the rights of all ethnic and religious minorities.
The statement noted that Rubio highlighted the importance of implementing the permanent ceasefire agreement and the integration agreement in northeast Syria, stressing the full respect for the rights of all Syrians and the provision of protection and security. He also welcomed the Syrian government’s commitment to full cooperation with the United States and the international coalition in efforts to defeat ISIS.

The Syrian delegation, headed by Al-Shaibani, discussed with the U.S. Secretary of State the latest domestic and regional developments during the Munich Security Conference, emphasizing Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. According to the statement, the U.S. side reaffirmed its support for the Syrian government and the recent integration agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces, as well as for Syria’s efforts in combating ISIS.
