U.S. Grants Entry Visas to Syrian Officials for Participation in International Meetings
The United States has granted entry visas to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani, Finance Minister Mohammad Yaser Barniyeh, and Central Bank Governor Abdul Qader Hosaria. The purpose of these visas is to enable them to attend the upcoming meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, scheduled for next week.
Mohammad Alaa Ghanem, an advisor at the organization “Citizens for a Secure America,” stated that granting these visas is a significant step toward participating in international discussions aimed at rebuilding Syria.
Ghanem noted that this participation follows a long absence and is considered essential to support Syrians in facing the consequences of the destruction the country has endured.
A Diplomatic Visit to Foster Dialogue
Ghanem explained that Al-Shibani’s visit to New York represents a major opportunity for constructive diplomatic dialogue with the international community and for restoring Syria’s active role as a founding member of the United Nations. He emphasized that the visit aims to improve Syria’s image, which has suffered from decades of isolation and accusations of exporting crises.
Goals and Division of the Syrian Delegation
Former Syrian diplomat Jihad Makdissi pointed out that the delegation has been divided into two groups: the first, led by Al-Shibani, will head to New York with a political agenda that includes intensive diplomatic meetings with the U.S. administration. The second group, led by Barniyeh and Hosaria, will travel to Washington to participate in the World Bank and IMF meetings.
