UK Ambassador in Cairo Highlights Impact of Red Sea Security Tensions
The British Ambassador to Cairo, Gareth Bayley, praised the deep-rooted relationship between the United Kingdom and Egypt, emphasizing its foundation in years of friendship and partnership.
During his visit to the Suez Canal in Ismailia Governorate, where he met with Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Bayley commended the Authority’s efforts in confronting current challenges. He stressed the strategic importance of the canal as a vital artery for global trade, a pillar of supply chain stability, and a key contributor to the international trade system and globalization goals.
The British ambassador explained that the security tensions in the Red Sea and the resulting navigation restrictions have led many companies and major shipping lines to divert through the Cape of Good Hope, representing a setback amid increasing maritime and environmental risks and a lack of navigation services.
He also expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in creating an investment-friendly environment through facilitation measures and significant regulatory reforms, which have positively influenced the growth of British investments in clean energy and green hydrogen within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
