White House Criticizes The Washington Post, Calling It “Media Criminal of the Week”
The White House accused The Washington Post of being the “media criminal of the week” after the publication released a report detailing alleged orders from U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, to kill survivors of drug traffickers.
The report claimed that Hegseth issued orders to carry out military strikes against drug traffickers’ vessels off the coast of Venezuela.
In response, both the White House and the Department of Defense rejected the report as “false,” asserting that military operations against drug traffickers comply with the laws of war. The White House further stated that the newspaper’s allegations were unsubstantiated and aimed at tarnishing the reputation of U.S. forces while stirring anti-American sentiment.
It is important to note that the U.S. justifies its military presence in the Caribbean region as part of its efforts to combat drug trafficking. Earlier, U.S. forces carried out operations against suspect vessels off the Venezuelan coast and discussed additional options for targeting sites within Venezuelan territory.
