A Common Daily Mistake in the Kitchen… Causes Numerous Diseases, Including Dementia and Cancer, Avoid It!

Doctors have warned about the dangers of heating food in plastic containers in the microwave, after a recent study revealed the accumulation of large amounts of microscopic plastic particles in the brains of dementia patients. The study provides detailed scientific information about the dangers of this common daily mistake, which can be avoided through simple methods to prevent several diseases.

Accumulation Leading to Dementia and Cancer

The study showed that using plastic containers for heating food exposes individuals to the risk of inhaling or ingesting micro and nano plastic particles (MNP), which accumulate in the brain and are linked to serious diseases such as dementia and cancer. According to the researchers, the equivalent of a tablespoon of these particles was found in the brains of the participants, with levels three to five times higher in those with dementia.

Effects on Fertility, Hormonal Health, and Heart Disease

Dr. Shanna Swan, an epidemiologist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, warned that the chemicals released by plastic containers when heated may affect fertility, causing hormonal disruptions that impact both male and female hormones.

Dr. Brandon Lo from the University of Toronto explained that heating food in plastic containers releases chemicals such as Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, which mix with food and enter the body when consumed. These compounds, associated with hormonal disruptions, not only increase the risk of cancer but also affect heart health.

Bottled Water as Another Source of Plastic Exposure

Researchers pointed out that bottled water is another major source of plastic particles. To avoid potential risks, they recommended replacing it with filtered tap water, which could reduce the annual consumption of these particles from 90,000 to 4,000 plastic particles.

Environmental Pollution and the Rise in Plastic Particles

Dr. Nicholas Fabiano from the University of Ottawa confirmed that the levels of plastic particles in the brain have significantly increased in recent years, with a marked rise between 2016 and 2024. Researchers linked this accelerated increase to the rising rates of environmental plastic pollution.

Higher Plastic Accumulation in the Brain Than Other Organs

The study indicated that the concentration of plastic particles in the brain is 7 to 30 times higher than in other organs such as the liver and kidneys, reflecting the danger of continuous exposure to these pollutants.

Recommendations to Reduce Risks

At the end of the study, experts urged replacing plastic containers with alternatives made of glass or stainless steel when heating food, pointing out that this simple step could reduce exposure to harmful plastic particles.

With increasing concerns about the impact of these particles on human health, researchers emphasize the need for preventive measures, including reducing plastic use in food heating and replacing it with safer alternatives to minimize potential health risks.

In 2023, the University of Nebraska conducted a study revealing that heating plastic in the microwave releases billions of nano-particles and millions of micro-particles per square centimeter. Experiments showed that kidney cells died within two days of exposure to these particles.
