Egyptian Support for Lebanon’s State Authority and Moves to Revive Arab NATO Based on the 2015 Summit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Cairo’s support for Lebanese state efforts to extend the authority of national institutions across the entire Lebanese territory, following the decision to ban the security and military activities of Hezbollah.

During a phone call with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s backing of Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, noting intensified Egyptian diplomatic efforts regionally and internationally to shield Lebanon from the repercussions of regional escalation.

According to Egyptian presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, Aoun briefed El-Sisi on Lebanese measures to contain arms and strengthen state authority, as well as humanitarian challenges arising from the ongoing conflict, while El-Sisi confirmed Cairo’s readiness to provide relief assistance to address displacement resulting from military operations.

Arab National Security Moves… “Arab NATO“

Separately, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati said Egypt is acting under the directive of President El-Sisi to monitor regional security arrangements as part of reviving and activating the concept of shared Arab national security.

During a government press conference on Tuesday evening, Abdel Ati explained that Cairo is leading initiatives in cooperation with several Arab states to promote this concept and implement measures agreed upon in previous Arab summits.

Abdel Ati noted that among these initiatives is the agreement reached at the 2015 Sharm El-Sheikh Summit on establishing an optional joint Arab military force aimed at addressing security challenges and safeguarding Arab security amid regional crises.

He added that Egypt’s national security is closely linked to Arab national security, stressing that these moves are part of ongoing efforts to monitor regional security arrangements and enhance Arab cooperation mechanisms in this field.
