As-Suwayda Places Its Demands Before Syria’s Transitional Government

Leaders of the Druze community, dignitaries, and representatives of military factions in As-Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria concluded an expanded meeting attended by representatives of the Transitional Syrian Government. The outcomes of the meeting emphasized the immediate activation of internal security forces and the empowerment of the judicial police exclusively with personnel from local cadres within As-Suwayda Governorate. They also called for lifting the siege on Jaramana, Sahnaya, and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya and restoring normal life to these areas without delay. Additionally, the attendees demanded the securing of the Damascus-As-Suwayda road under the responsibility of the authorities and the implementation of a nationwide ceasefire across all Syrian territories.
In a similar meeting held today in Jaramana, measures were adopted in coordination with the Transitional Syrian Government to impose security, restore calm, and stabilize the region. These meetings were prompted by the violent events witnessed over the past two days in Sahnaya, Ashrafiyat Sahnaya, Jaramana, and surrounding villages in As-Suwayda Governorate, where armed clashes led to casualties among civilians and members of the Syrian General Security forces.
