From the capital Damascus, A Historic Mass by Patriarch John X and Bold Messages

From the heart of the Mariamite Church in the capital, Damascus, during the New Year’s Eve mass, Patriarch John X delivered messages that embodied the meaning of unity among Syrians, both Muslims and Christians. He emphasized that the new dawn we look forward to is one of freedom, justice, and equality.
At the start of his sermon, the Patriarch stressed that the “and” separating “we” and “you” disappears in a society based on true citizenship, where everyone participates in building a single nation that respects the diversity of identities within the framework of comprehensive national unity.
He pointed out that the desired constitution should reflect this harmony, drawing inspiration from the openness of Levantine Islam and the ancient heritage of Syrian Christianity, to embody the values of living together that have distinguished Syria’s history.
The Patriarch affirmed that the Church has been and will remain a symbol of the unity of the land and the people, extending a hand to every Syrian soul seeking to achieve a shared future, where the cross meets the crescent in a land overflowing with tolerance and love.
In his speech, the Patriarch called for strengthening national unity, both in Syria and Lebanon, and for overcoming the crises facing both peoples.
He also expressed the Church’s solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and Jerusalem, calling for an end to their suffering and the establishment of peace.
The Patriarch concluded his sermon by calling for joint efforts to build a new Syria, expressing his readiness to participate in any national dialogue initiative aimed at realizing the aspirations of the Syrians.
He also emphasized the importance of activating these initiatives to ensure the inclusion of all in shaping the country’s future.
