Number of Palestinian detainees in 2021

Palestinian human rights organizations revealed the number of Palestinians arrested by the Israeli forces over the course of 2021, and revealed the number of detainees, including women and children.
Reuters quoted a human rights report issued by the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission, the Palestinian Prisoner Club, the Addameer Foundation for Prisoner Care and Human Rights, and the Wadi Hilweh Information Center – Jerusalem. The report revealed that Israel arrested 8,000 Palestinians over the past year, including more than 1,300 minors and children, and 184 Palestinian women Women.

The report added that “the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in the prisons of the occupation reached about 4,600 until the end of December 2021, including 34 female prisoners, including a minor girl, while the number of children and minors detainees in the prisons of the occupation reached about 160 children.”

The number of sick prisoners reached about 600, including the prisoner Fouad Al-Shobaki (81), who is the oldest prisoner, while the number of the old prisoners detained before the signing of the Oslo Agreement reached 25, the oldest of whom are Karim Younis and Maher Younis, who have been detained since January 1983 continuously. According to the report.

The report continued: “During this year, the occupation authorities issued 1,595 administrative detention orders, the majority of which were against former prisoners who spent years in the occupation’s prisons, as the number of administrative detainees in Israeli prisons reached about 500, while Israel continues to detain ten Palestinian journalists in its prisons.”

The human rights report concluded that the number of prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment reached 547, the highest of whom was the prisoner Abdullah Al-Barghouti, against whom 67 sentences were issued for Al-Muayyad, including four prisoners who were sentenced to life sentences during the year 2021. They are Yasser Hattab, Qassem Asafra, Nasir Asafra and Youssef Zohour.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli authorities have not issued any comment so far on what the report deals with regarding the conditions of arrest of Palestinians and what they are exposed to in Israeli prisons
