UAE embassy incident in Damascus: Gargash says “small extremist group moving within a rejected agenda”
Anwar Gargash, advisor to the UAE president, said that “attacking embassies and diplomatic missions is not only a flagrant violation of international law, but also reflects a flaw in the security environment of countries where such attacks occur.” Gargash’s comments came after protesters attempted to storm the UAE embassy in Damascus, an attempt that was prevented by Syrian security forces.
Gargash added in a post on X that “what a small extremist group moving within a rejected agenda is doing” comes as the UAE hosts a large Syrian community living in safety, considering these “serious messages that require clear resolve and full commitment to respecting international law.”
For its part, the Syrian Foreign Ministry expressed its rejection of any attack or attempt to approach embassies and diplomatic missions accredited in Syria.
Media sources reported that security forces intervened to prevent protesters from reaching the vicinity of the UAE embassy, leading to pushing and shoving and altercations, with no information about injuries or arrests.

It is worth noting that Syrian provinces have witnessed widespread popular protests in recent days in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners.
