Zelensky: “They haven’t spoken to us yet about the settlement talks!”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his appreciation on Tuesday for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval of the initiative to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Zelensky also stated that he hopes to receive a call from U.S. President Donald Trump soon, as he has not yet spoken with him following the Russian-American talks on Ukraine.

In another context, Politico reported, citing its sources, that the Nordic and Baltic countries called for a clear plan to accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, amid disagreements with Hungary, which is blocking the process.

Senior diplomats from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia stressed the need for Brussels to prepare concrete proposals to speed up Ukraine’s EU accession process, emphasizing that any bilateral issues that may conflict with the EU’s strategic interests should be resolved through constructive dialogue with Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed that Budapest will not approve any steps toward Ukraine’s EU membership until the rights of the Hungarian minority in the Transcarpathian region are restored.

The European Union granted Ukraine and Moldova candidate status for EU membership in June 2022, noting that the start of negotiations does not necessarily guarantee actual membership.
