Iraqi drones Saudi Arabia: Baghdad denies and launches investigation
Baghdad denied, on Monday, any information confirming the launch of drones from its territory targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming its absolute rejection of any acts compromising Saudi security, while launching an investigation into the incident and calling on Riyadh to exchange information.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it has not recorded any information about drones launched from Iraqi territory to target the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Baghdad stressed its absolute rejection of any acts that would compromise the Kingdom’s security or stability.
The ministry stated in an official statement that it “received preliminary information regarding the targeting of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by three drones,” explaining that it “immediately initiated the necessary investigation and inquiry procedures to determine the circumstances and conditions surrounding the incident.”
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry added that relevant authorities confirmed “that no information was registered through Iraqi air defense systems and optical equipment,” noting that it had called on “the relevant authorities in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to cooperate and exchange relevant information, contributing to reaching accurate information that enhances security and stability for the two sisterly countries.”
The ministry stressed “the Iraqi Republic’s firm position in respecting the security, safety, and sovereignty of sisterly nations, and its rejection of any acts that would compromise their stability or threaten their national security, or harm fraternal relations with sisterly countries.” The Iraqi Foreign Ministry affirmed “its keenness to continue coordination and consultation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, enhancing security and stability in the region and serving the mutual interests of the two sisterly countries.”
Riyadh announced intercepting 3 drones coming from Iraq
The Saudi Ministry of Defense had announced, on Sunday evening, that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 3 drones after they entered the Kingdom’s airspace coming from Iraqi territory.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Major General Turki Al-Malki, confirmed that the ministry reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place, stressing that Riyadh will take and implement all necessary operational procedures to respond to any attempt to violate the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory.
